All braided up

I got some single plaits done last week monday for a little change, it feels so different having such heavy hair, I think I was maybe 16 when I last had these type of braids! I was inspired a month ago by  a girl I saw going past the salon, her braids were too long for my hair to take, so I opted for a mid-back length it turned out a little longer than I originally wanted and I am forever tying it back a work... I love coming home and doing my high bun, even though it feels heavy at times and sometimes unwillingly tips me forward! I am using Mane 'n Tail braid sheen spray every day to relieve any itching and to give me some shine, I took the liberty of adding some coconut oil and glycerine to the spray for extra moisture, I simply refuse to have dry hair when I remove this style.

Braids Advice:

  • Condition your hair well before braiding; I suggest a thorough treatment to increase the elasticity
  • Reduce the tension on your hair; there is no need to do your hair extra tight, this can cause traction alopecia and can lead to permanent damage
  • Find someone who understands how to braids and can give you some great advice on how to look after them
  • Know when it's time; braids should last 4-6 weeks, they wont always stay looking pretty
  • Take care; wear a satin or silk scarf to keep your hair neat
  • Use something for your scalp; hair can get itchy when braided up, so keep some spray nearby, there are loads of braid sheen around and you can definitely add your own mixture like I did to keep your hair moisturised, healthy, strong and maintained during your protective style
  • After taking out your braids; continue with your conditioning, hair care is round the clock so after taking the braids out do a thorough conditioner/treatment to maintain your hair's elasticity.
Hope the advice helps as always xx
